Penally Abbey

June 24th | A message from us.

It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know that on the 30th May a fire broke out at the hotel. No-one was hurt or involved, and everyone is safe for which we are incredibly grateful and this is the most important thing of all.

However, a significant amount of damage has been caused to the building. As a result of this, we are so sad that the hotel is now unlikely to be able to open at all this summer. It has been such a privilege to spend the last 5 years restoring the Abbey to its current beautiful state. Penally Abbey is a Grade 2 listed Strawberry Hill gothic house and will need the utmost care and precision in the months to come in order to restore it to the level that it deserves.

In the coming weeks, we shall find a way forward both together as a family and with our team and know that the hotel will return more beautiful and stronger than before. Of that, you can be sure.

After closing the hotel from the end of March due to Covid-19, we were so looking forward to being able to gradually resume some form of normality. Please do know that we are so disappointed to not be welcoming you but that we hope that you will come and stay with us again in the hopefully not too distant future. Our diaries for 2021 are well and truly open and we are so grateful to everyone who has booked to come and stay next year.

The next six months will be a tough time as we do all we can to bring the business back from the unprecedented setbacks that we've experienced. If you would like to support as we work towards re-opening the doors of our labour of love, you can here: support Penally Abbey.

We will be sharing any updates as and when we know more via our monthly newsletter. If you would like to sign-up you can here: Newsletter Sign-Up

Warmest Wishes to you all,

Lucas, Melanie, Joe, Saskia, Jacques and the whole Penally team.
